Today's Badass Chick is slightly unconventional, and I am the first to admit that I am not a mother, but I love the values she's trying to instill on her son, so here we go! Janell Hofman is a mother who gave her 13-year-old son an iPhone for Christmas... along with an 18-point contract detailing exactly how it is to be used. She included items like:

-Always answer the phone when you see "mom" or "dad" pop up on the screen.

-Do not text, email, or say anything to anyone using this phone that you would not say to them in person, with their parents standing in the room with you. Be respectful.

-Do not use this phone to bully or deceive anyone, ever.

-No porn.

-Silence it while public, especially at a restaurant or while speaking to another human being. Don't be rude.

-Keep your eyes up. See the world happening around you.

-Play a brain teaser game every once in a while.

-If you break it, you're replacing it.

...The list goes on. What I think is so Badass about this is that she's teaching her child personal responsibility and attempting to ensure that he "coexists with technology," not "be ruled by it," as she's mentioned in recent interviews. I think we can all benefit from reading Janell's contract, and I guarantee you my mom would've done the same thing with me if I had received an iPhone at 13. (Fact: Judy actually made me sign a very similar contract when I got my first computer and my first car!) Janell Hofman, you are a Badass Mama

Read the whole contract here (it's cute!) and learn more about the Hoffmans.
