Be on the lookout for this Badass Chick who will rule the science world one day: 14-year-old Deepika Kurup. In 2012, she was named America's Top Young Scientist after she entered into and won the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. After having seen children in India drinking dirty water from a stagnant pool, she created an inexpensive, solar-powered water purification system. Deepika worked closely with a 3M scientist during the competition and won herself $25,000 to patent the project. She also plans on creating a non-profit organization to further develop her ideas.
